Mission & Values

Guided by the Holy Spirit, Lutheran Theological Seminary prepares courageous, compassionate leaders who serve our church, respond to the world’s deep needs, engage in ecumenical collaboration, and draw from the richness of diverse wisdom and traditions.

Lutheran Theological Seminary is rooted in the theological vision of Martin Luther, proclaiming that God’s love—revealed through Scripture and embodied in Jesus Christ—is abundant and fulfilling for all. Embracing this liberating gospel, we are called and sent to share this gift with the world.

Our Mission

Our Vision

As disciples of Christ committed to public leadership among God’s people in diverse and challenging cultural contexts, we eagerly learn from and welcome one another’s diversity, including, but not limited to, theological perspective, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity, relationship status, age, physical ability, social and economic status and sexual orientation.

Our Values

Faithfulness

Responding to the gift of faith, we equip public leaders to think and act as a reflection of God’s loving presence.

Participation

With the whole church, we participate in God’s ongoing mission to love and bless the world.

Reconciliation

Attentive to God’s call to love our neighbour, we affirm each person as gift and strive to embody diversity.

Transformation

Grounded in the covenant of baptism, we pursue excellence in scholarship through critical reflection, faithful inquiry, and lifelong learning to prepare leaders for a changing church and society.

Proclamation

Faithful to biblical witness and to Lutheran confessional heritage, we challenge ourselves and others to courageously share the promise of God’s unconditional grace.

Affirming Community

We welcome people from both Lutheran and non-Lutheran traditions.  LTS is an inclusive community and offers hospitality to all who participate in our programs of study.

Reconciliation &
Intercultural Relations

The Indigenous and Intercultural Relations course seeks to build an understanding of Canada’s Indigenous peoples’ worldviews, history, and culture. Onsite classes, workshops, and visits to local Indigenous sites teach about wakohtowin, the relationships understood by Indigenous people regarding humans, land, and spirituality. Students learn about experiences in Canada’s Indian Residential Schools. They learn about colonialism, treaty and the inherent rights of Indigenous peoples. (THIS IS THE WRONG TEXT)
