Ways To Give

Guided by the Holy Spirit, Lutheran Theological Seminary prepares courageous, compassionate leaders who serve our church, respond to the world’s deep needs, engage in ecumenical collaboration, and draw from the richness of diverse wisdom and traditions.

There are a number of ways in which you can contribute to our mission here at Lutheran Theological Seminary.

For more information on Planned Giving, or a particular Scholarship or Bursary, the many different Funds to which you can give, or Online Giving, just click on the appropriate link. It is also possible to send us a donation by mail, by telephone, or to give monthly by credit card or pre-authorized debit (PAD).

Giving in any form can be designated to a particular fund, or made in honor of, or in memory of, a particular person. For more lasting commemoration, it is also possible to establish and award, scholarship, or busary. Of course, while we appreciate gifts to our Annual fund, which is always in great need, we are very pleased and grateful to apply gifts to anyone of the causes here at LTS. Whenever possible, in the case of tribute gifts, we send a card to the family of the person in whose name the gift has been made.

Although undesignated gifts to the Annual Fund are always gratefully appreciated, Lutheran Theological Seminary. is happy to direct your donation where you want it to go.

If you wish for your gift to go to a particular fund, please indicate so, either in an attached note or on the memo line of the cheques. Offerings without such indicators are, by default, put into the Annual Fund.

Money in these funds is spend during the fiscal year (1 July – 30 June) in which they are received.

eTransfer

It is Simple

If you wish to give online to the seminary, the ideal way is through a direct e-transfer to our Finance email. And it’s very simple. Once you have determined the gift amount on your banking page, you choose our name—Lutheran Theological Seminary—and then the email address to which the transfer is directed: Finance.LTS@saskatoontheologicalunion.ca

It is Secure

Interac e-Transfer is considered one of the safest digital money transfers in the world. Your gift will be processed by one of our Finance team members, and you will be receipted and thanked in a timely manner.

If you wish to give to a specific fund, other than our General Fund, please indicate the name of the fund to which you wish to see your gift directed.

It is Welcome!

We thank you for considering e-transfer as your giving method. As LTS increases its digital commitment to development and communications, e-transfer gifts work seamlessly with this approach. It is also considerably faster than sending a cheque by mail, which can be subject to postal strikes and seasonal delays.

Donate by Mail

Our mailing address is:

CanadaHelps

There are two things for you to note, if you choose this giving method:

1. When you donate through CanadaHelps, they will issue you a tax receipt, not LTS.

2. While several of our donors give through platforms such as CanadaHelps—and of course, we appreciate this greatly!—the one drawback to this method is that CanadaHelps removes a small percentage of the gift to cover their own administration fees.

Monthly Donations

Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR): We participate in the PAR program operated by FaithLife Financial. FaithLife transfers the pre-agreed amount from the donor’s bank account to the Seminary’s on the 20th of each month. LTS issues a tax receipt at the end of the calendar year.

Credit Card: The Development Office charges your credit card the agreed-upon amount on or near the beginning of each month. LTS issues a tax receipt at the end of the calendar year.

Post-dated Cheques: You send in a series of cheques dated to whatever is convenient for you. We cash the cheques as the dates arise and issue a tax receipt at the end of the calendar year.

CanadaHelps.org: CanadaHelps charges your credit card monthly on the agreed-upon date and sends the money to our bank account about ten days later. CanadaHelps issues your tax receipt. LTS sends you a biannual thank-you letter.

If you would like to donate monthly, please contact the Development Office to determine which arrangement works best for you. You can reach us at our mailing address as listed above, or by email to development.lts@saskatoontheologicalunion.ca, or by telephone (639-398-8555). Please do not send credit card information by e-mail.

Estate

A gift committed to LTS through your will or trust does not occupy funds which you might possibly need in the future. Instead, your funds remain accessible to you.

There are many different options for leaving a planned gift; the basic idea is simple: to leave your lasting mark at LTS, to benefit and enrich the lives of future pastors and their congregations for years to come.

Other special types of gifts like publicly traded securities, life insurance or an RRSP/RRIF can also be left in support of Lutheran Theological Seminary. Life Insurance is a great gift for individuals who don’t perhaps have the financial means to leave a legacy gift now but makes possible to leave a legacy after. Through these gifts you may also receive various tax benefits.

For most donors, this is unchartered territory, but it can be helpful. The hardest part is learning about it. That’s where we come in! If you want to know more about the many ways you can plan a future gift to LTS, please contact our Director of Development.

Endowment

As occurs at other institutions, many of our endowment funds are used for major projects. The general endowment provides income for defraying operating expenses each year. Others support named scholarships or bursaries.

Currently we are creating a new series of funds that we are looking for donations for that will help not only increase our operating abilities but grow the seminary faculty into the future. Please consider donating to the new Grace Fund for new Faculty.
