Rostered Ministers Taking Courses For Continuing Education

Continuing Education at the Lutheran Seminary is for those who have already graduated from an MDiv, MTS, or Diaconal Certificate program (or their equivalents), and want to audit an occasional LTS course. Typically, Continuing Education students access funding from their judicatory bodies, for courses taken.

Auditing students are not required to complete any course assignments or write examinations nor be entitled to having course work corrected. Audited courses will be identified on a student’s transcript by the notation AUDIT.

Please note that not all courses offered by the Seminary are open to Continuing Education students.  

Students who wish to take a course for credit must apply to the Seminary as an Occasional Student or enter a degree program.

Curriculum

Continuing Education students may take:

  • On-site intensive courses, or
  • Intensive distributed learning courses (designated with the DL suffix to the course number), or
  • Asynchronous, semester-long distributed learned courses (designated with the DLA suffix in the course number)

Note: Intensive courses are typically two weeks long, all day. Asynchronous semester-long courses are accessed through an online learning platform where students are free to work on course material according to their own time schedules. For more information, visit our Learning Formats page.

The content below is what the DMin program looks like (ignore content below)

The DMin program is a 30 credit hour program and has three main components:

  • Colloquia (3 colloquia; 4 credit hours total)
  • Courses of instruction (7 courses total 20 credit hours total)
  • A project in ministry planned, carried-out and written as a final report in collaboration with a team in the ministry site and presented to a DMin evaluation committee (6 credit hours total)
Admission Requirements

In order to be eligible to take our Continuing Education program:

  • Completion of the online Application for Admission
  • Submission of a $25 application fee.
